Afshin Hashemi to appear in online play ‘Mr. Happiness’

Iranian actor Afshin Hashemi is to appear in online play titled ‘Mr. Happiness’.

Iranian actor Afshin Hashemi has been selected to appear in an online play titled ‘Mr. Happiness’.

Directed by Aryan Rezaee, the play by American writer David Mamet will be online at Tiwall, a social network dedicated to Iran’s theater and music, for Iranian theater aficionados on Thursday and Friday.

The short monolog takes place in a 1930s radio station, in which a prim, sincere, advice-to-the-lovelorn personality answers the letters people have written him about their troubles of the heart.

Hashemi will perform the monolog translated into Persian by Mohammad Monem.

All the money raised by the performances will go to a charity organization supporting female-headed households.

‘Mr. Happiness’ first appeared at the Plymouth Theatre on Broadway in 1978.

Born in 1975, Hashemi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Directing.

He began his acting career in theater and made his cinematic debut in 2003 with the movie ‘So Close, So Far’.

Some of the other movies in which he has played roles include ‘Barefoot in Heaven’, ‘In the Name of Father’, ‘The Child and The Angel’, ‘Please Do not Disturb’.

Hashemi has also appeared in a number of series, including ‘Bench’, ‘Saadat Guesthouse’, ‘The Safe’ and ‘The First Choice’.

Besides acting, he has directed the movie ‘I Hope You Are Not Tired’ in 2012 and plays a traditional musical instrument named “Kamancheh.”
